Description
The White Gates is a notable entrance structure featuring four tall piers made of tooled squared stone. In the center, there are fine cast-iron double gates, with matching single gates on either side. The gates are flanked by curving low rubble walls. The four tall square piers are constructed from tooled grey stone with smooth angles, resting on a pale grey granite plinth. Below the top course, there is a moulded ashlar string course, and the piers are capped with ashlar that is stepped, culminating in a shallow pyramid shape. The gates themselves are adorned with two decorated bands: one located above the dog-bars and another at the top, both featuring rosettes set within squares and short spearheads positioned above each square. The top rail of the gates includes longer spearheads that alternate with the shorter ones, while the vertical rails are square in section with quadrant-curved angles.
