Description

The building is a single-storey school, likely constructed between 1820 and 1839, although it does not appear on the Ordnance Survey map of 1859. It has been extensively altered, appearing as a gabled rectangular structure with a modern flat-roofed addition to one side. The walls are cement rendered, and the windows and doors have been replaced. Several plaques are set into the end gable, bearing the dates "1832" and "1909," along with the inscription "Fleming Fulton School Ballinran 1976," and a biblical verse: “Holy Bible Proverbs Chap.22 V.8, Rev. J. F. Close, Rector of Kilkeel, Revd. William Boyle Curate AD. 1832.” The building is noted for its plaques and is otherwise considered to have no particular architectural or historical merit.
