Description

This is a former public elementary school, constructed between 1920 and 1939 and located beside 50 Ballyveaghmore Road in Ballymartin, near Kilkeel, Newry. It replaced an earlier school, named ‘Ballyveagh School’, which was situated on the adjacent plot to the east. The building is a single-story structure with a hipped roof covered in slates and walls finished with cement render. It features chimneys. A plaque on a raised, central parapet to the south elevation displays the words ‘Ballyveaghmore Public Elementary School 1939’. The building has undergone alterations and extensions since its original construction and is now in residential use. While of local social interest, it is not considered to hold sufficient significance to warrant statutory listing.
