Description

This is a relatively small, two-story vernacular farmhouse dating to the 1840s, situated on the south side of Trassey Road, approximately 6 miles west of Newcastle and 4 miles southwest of Bryansford. The front of the house faces north.

The front facade features a small, lean-to entrance porch with a timber-sheeted and glazed door, positioned slightly left of centre. To the left of the porch is a small sash window, and to the right of the porch are two similar windows. The first floor has four smaller, matching windows aligned with the ground floor openings. The east gable has a small, single-story shed/outbuilding with a corrugated iron-covered gabled roof, featuring three timber-sheeted doors on the front, one being double. The west gable is blank. A single-story gabled extension, renovated in recent years and with modern windows on its faces, extends from the rear of the house. Single windows with modern frames are positioned on either side of this extension on the main facade. The façade is finished with rough cast render and painted. The roof is covered in natural slate, with artificial slate on the extension. Rendered parapets are present on the main roof, and there are two rendered chimney stacks on the gables. The building incorporates cast iron and PVC rainwater goods.

The house was constructed between 1834 and 1859. It appears in the second valuation of 1863 as the home of James Martin, with a rateable value of £1.
