Description

Long, single storey, rubble-built vernacular house, of probable pre 1834 construction, with a small gabled porch. The house is set at the head of a long narrow lane to the S of the Slievenaman Road, approximately 8 kilometres W of Newcastle The S front is asymmetrical and has a small lean-to porch to the centre with a small sash window either side (vertical glazing bars- 2 panes over 2). The porch roof is a continuation of the main roof and both are finished in natural slate. To the far left on the front facade is a timber sheeted door (this W portion of the building was obliviously a byre at some point- though the position of the chimney stack suggests it was once part of the house proper). Gables to both W and E are blank as is the N rear elevation. The house is finished in random rubble to the S, W and E while the N face has a harled finish. There are four potless chimney stacks equally spaced on the apex of the ridge. .
