Description

This is a low-proportion, two-storey vernacular farmhouse likely dating to the mid-19th century, now derelict. It is situated on the north side of Slievenaman Road, approximately five miles west of Newcastle. The front façade faces roughly south and exhibits a symmetrical design. A prominently positioned, single-storey, flat-roofed brick porch, likely added in the early 20th century, dominates the centre of the ground floor; it contains a doorway without a door and a window opening lacking a frame. To the left of the porch is a small ground floor window with remnants of a sash frame, while to the right is a similar-sized opening that is now boarded. The first floor features two very small windows closely set to the eaves; the left window retains parts of its sash frame while the right window is largely frameless. Both gables are blank. The east gable displays the remains of a thick rubble wall, possibly belonging to a former outbuilding. A tiny single-pane window is located on the ground floor to the rear, on the left side. The façade is predominantly harled, and the brick porch has been rendered, though much of that rendering has deteriorated. The gabled roof is covered in natural slate, with many slates having fallen from the front. Rendered chimney stacks are present on each gable.

An 1834 and 1859 Ordnance Survey map shows a building on this site. Records from the 1863 Second Valuation indicate it was occupied by John McKnight. It is plausible that the house documented in 1863 corresponds to the present ruin, aligning with the prevalence of similar two-storey vernacular dwellings within the Trassey Valley. The porch is considered a later, early 20th-century addition.
