Description

This is a two-storey gabled vernacular house likely built in the mid-19th century, between 1840 and 1859. It is situated on a rise to the south side of Byransford Road, approximately one mile southeast of the village of Kilcoo and five miles west of Bryansford, in County Down.

The asymmetrical front facade features a small porch with a flat roof seemingly made from a slab of stone, containing a timber sheeted stable door. To the left of the porch is a timber-sheeted door between two small sash windows; the door is no longer in use. A small window with a modern frame sits to the right of the porch. Above, four small sash windows are visible, with the one furthest to the left slightly larger than the others. The east gable has a modern fixed light window to the first floor. A single-storey shed with a mono-pitched slated roof is attached to the west gable, which links to a larger single-storey gabled shed further west. The rear of the house has three small windows on the ground floor and two on the first floor, all with modern frames. The facade is harled and whitewashed, and the gabled roof is covered in concrete tiles. Two rendered chimney stacks are present, one central and one on the west gable, with some PVC rainwater goods.

A house is depicted on an Ordnance Survey map of 1859, which probably corresponds to the present dwelling. Local information suggests the house was built by a member of the Cunningham family, a common name in the area.

The house was originally used as a residence and remains in residential use today.
