Site of former 129 Bryansford Road, Moyad, Newcastle, Co Down

The site of a former two-storey vernacular house, likely dating from before 1834, was demolished around 1994-5 and is now vacant. Located on the south side of Bryansford Road, approximately 5 miles west of Newcastle and a mile south of the village of Kilcoo, the site retains some derelict, single-storey, rubble-built outbuildings. A modern, single-storey replacement dwelling stands a short distance to the southeast of the site.

A 1972 survey described the original house as having two storeys, with harled and whitewashed walls and parapet gables. It had four chimneys and sash windows with a vertical division. A gabled porch featured a carved bargeboard, and storage accommodation at the east end included a sheeted door to the ground floor and steps leading to the upper part. The building appeared as a vernacular dwelling in an accompanying photograph.

The site was marked on Ordnance Survey maps from 1834 and 1859, likely representing a structure similar to the house that stood there until its demolition. While not noted during the valuation around 1836, the house was occupied by William Duke, who leased the land from Lord Annesley, when valued in 1863.
