Description

This is a long, single-storey gabled house, originally dating to the 1860s, and subsequently lengthened in the 1890s. It is located on the northeast side of Bryansford Road, approximately one and a half miles northwest of Newcastle, near Bryansford village.

The original, asymmetrical portion facing the southwest has a modern door roughly centred, sheltered by a porch hood. Two windows flank the door, both fitted with modern frames. A small canted oriel window with a hipped roof is present on the northwest gable, with a window at upper floor level, mirroring the front elevation. The southeast gable appears blank. The rear of the house has undergone significant modern extensions in the 1990s, obscuring much of the original facade except for a section along the far left, which mirrors the front elevation with two windows. The original section is finished with rough cast rendering and smooth render surrounds to the front windows, and the entire facade is painted. The gabled roof has a slight overhang with plain bargeboards. Natural slates cover the front roof slope, while artificial slates cover the rear. Two Velux windows are visible on the front roof slope, alongside two centred, rendered chimney stacks. The building incorporates PVC rainwater goods.

According to the current owner, the house was built in two stages; the northwest half dating from the 1860s and the southeast half added in the 1890s. It is believed to have served as the residence for an estate worker associated with the nearby former Tollymore Park estate. A large rear extension, added in the 1990s, now incorporates a tea room.
