Description
The building at 87 Ballyveaghbeg Road, Kilkeel, Newry, County Down, was a thatched cottage dating from between 1860 and 1879. It was demolished, and no trace of the original house remains. The cottage was recorded in a 1972 survey as having a harled and whitewashed exterior with a roped thatched roof. It featured sash windows and a chimney stack rising from the west gable. An adjacent corrugated iron-roofed bungalow was also present. A half-door led into the thatched cottage, flanked to the west by a plain sash window and to the east by a sash window with vertical divisions. A smaller, plainer window was located at the rear, and there was a gable hearth with a pot crane. The building was not shown on Ordnance Survey maps from 1834 or 1859, but appeared on the 1901 map. The property was delisted on 19 December 1985 and is now in private ownership.
