Former Bingian School, 128 Head Road, Kilkeel, Newry, Co Down, BT34 4PX

This is a former schoolhouse, built between 1860 and 1879, located on Head Road, Kilkeel. It is situated in a scenic setting against the backdrop of the surrounding mountains.

The building is a single-story, three-bay structure facing south. It has a rectangular plan with a rear return and two small, flat-roofed porches. The roof is gabled and covered in natural slates, with overhanging eaves and exposed purlin and rafter ends. Cast iron rainwater goods are present. A single rendered chimney is positioned to the left of the main doorway. The walls are painted and rendered, with a black painted plinth. The main facade features a vertically sheeted door with a six-paned transom light. To the left of the door are three windows serving the main classroom, while two windows are positioned to the right of the door, serving a smaller room. All windows have small panes set within metal frames. A tablet on the south wall reads "Bingian Public Elementary School.” There are high windows in the gables – two facing east, and one facing west. The property is bounded by a rubble stone wall.

Following its closure as a school, the building was subsequently used as an outdoor pursuits centre by the Southern Education and Library Board and then by Belfast Royal Academy, which sold it to the current owner in 1994 or 1995. A photograph from 1975 shows a second chimney on the right gable.
