House, Between 170 and 184 Head Rd, Annalong, Newry, Co Down, BT34 4RG

This is a two-storey, two-bay farmhouse dating from between 1800 and 1819. Located on Head Road, Annalong, County Down, it is typical of buildings in the area in terms of its proportions, style, and layout. The building’s original, unaltered condition is a key feature.

The south-facing farmhouse has a gabled slate roof with a central chimney constructed of rendered stone and topped with brick. The walls are of dashed random granite rubble. A modern entrance door, vertically sheeted with tongue-and-groove boards, is set into a projecting porch at the right end of the façade. The porch has a slate roof with a recessed apex. There are two ground-floor windows, one in each bay, and two windows in line above them on the first floor. All windows have granite cills; one original 6/6 sliding sash window remains at the bottom left. The gables are blank, and two small casement windows are present on the rear ground-floor elevation.

A building is depicted on this site on an Ordnance Survey map from 1834. The building was formerly used as a house and remains in residential use. It was noted as derelict and exhibits vernacular characteristics.
