Description
This is an intact sweat house, one of a small number found in the area, comparable to HB12/01/033 and HB12/046. The structure was built into the east side of a field bank, of which only fragments remain, immediately north of an agricultural outbuilding. Constructed of random rubble, it has a distinctive beehive profile. It measures approximately 2.4 metres in basal diameter and stands to a height of around 2.4 metres. A small entrance, or creep hole, is located on the east side, measuring 45cm wide by 60cm high and topped with a flat lintel. While the west face of the surrounding bank has been partially eroded, the sweat house itself is structurally complete and is currently very overgrown. The small scale of the building meant it was not depicted on Ordnance Survey maps at scales of 6 inches and 25 inches. The date of construction is currently unknown.
