Description
This is a substantial, linear vernacular house located in the townland of Corragunt, near Rosslea, County Fermanagh. Likely built between 1820 and 1839, it retains traces of its original thatched roof. A building is depicted on the 1834 Ordnance Survey map, and an outbuilding is shown on the 1857 Ordnance Survey map.
The house is a one-storey, three-bay dwelling situated on the north side of a track leading off the main road. A former outbuilding at the west end has recently been demolished to make way for an animal pen. The pitched roof is now covered with corrugated metal sheeting over the original thatch. A stone verge is present on the east gable, and a vestige of a chimney sits between bays one and two. The walls are lime-rendered and ochre-washed random rubble, with roughly-dressed quoins. The principal elevation faces southeast. A windbreak porch with a beaded tongue-and-groove door is at the right-hand end of the middle bay. There is a single window in each bay, all with dressed stone cills. The southwest gable is blank, with no connecting door between the house and the demolished bay. The northwest elevation has a window in the middle bay, now boarded over, and exhibits an outward lean indicating structural instability. The northeast gable is adjoined by a smaller byre with a corrugated metal roof, a stone verge, and unrendered random rubble walls. The byre's roof is constructed with scraw laid on sawn lathes and rafters. It features a doorway on its southeast elevation, a window on the gable, and an infilled opening in the middle of the rear wall. The exposed section of the main block is blank. A detached shed, without a scraw roof underlay, abuts the rear of the house.
