Description
The bridge at Derryheanlish, County Fermanagh, dates to the mid-19th century, likely constructed between 1840 and 1859. It is a small-scale bridge of a typical design, exhibiting some industrial archaeological interest. The bridge features a single, skew segmental arch that carries a two-lane road over a stream. It is constructed from roughly coursed and faced squared sandstone rubble, with the voussoirs and parapet copings being of finely dressed stone, the latter in a slightly paler shade. The parapets originally terminated in out-projecting rusticated piers, although the north end of the upstream parapet is now missing. A small pipe runs across the upstream (west) face of the bridge. The bridge first appears on the Ordnance Survey map of 1857, though earlier maps from 1834 are also relevant. The bridge is currently in use and is owned by central government.
