Description
This is a small-scale bridge, likely constructed between 1840 and 1859. It is built of sandstone throughout and carries a two-lane road across a river via a semicircular span. The bridge’s spandrels and parapets are built with random blocks, while the finely dressed voussoirs are topped with rusticated keystones. The parapets are coped with large, finely dressed blocks, including rusticated middle and end stones; three coping stones on the downstream side have been replaced with concrete. A metal pipe runs across the upstream (western) face of the bridge. The bridge first appears on the 1857 Ordnance Survey 6-inch map, confirming its mid-19th century construction. The structure holds some industrial archaeological interest.
