Turf House, Opposite 9 Mount Darby Road, Rosslea, Co Fermanagh, BT92 7QB

This is a large turf house situated opposite 9 Mount Darby Road, Rosslea, County Fermanagh, and is a notable roadside feature beautifully positioned to the north of Mill Lough. The building, aligned roughly north-south on a bend in the road, was originally accompanied by a dwelling (HB12/01/053), which has since been demolished. The roof is pitched and covered in natural slate, with no rainwater goods. The walls are constructed from random rubble stone with two ventilation slits on each side elevation and one at the rear. Dressed and stepped stone quoins mark the corners. The north gable, which faces the road, features a large, segmental-headed opening constructed with dressed stone voussoirs and a keyblock.

The turf house was first depicted on the Ordnance Survey map of 1906-07, suggesting a construction date within the later 19th century, specifically between 1880 and 1899. Originally used as outbuildings, it continues to serve that purpose today. The building is located within the townland of Killyfole and is of architectural interest due to its style, proportions, and setting, as well as holding local historical interest. It is privately owned. A key characteristic of the structure is its vernacular appearance.
