School, Doon and Eshcleagh, Rosslea, Co Fermanagh, BT92 7QL

This is a late 19th century school building, likely constructed between 1880 and 1899. Situated on the south side of a minor road east of bridge HB12/01/073, it is aligned north-south. The building is a single-storey, single-bay structure of no particular architectural merit. It has a pitched roof covered in natural slate, with sandstone chimneys to both gables; the northern chimney is decorative and non-functional. The walls are smooth, cement-rendered.

The north gable features a lower porch. The porch's left side has a beaded tongue-and-groove door, its end gable a window which is now sheeted over, and its right side is blank. The exposed section of the main block is also blank. The east elevation originally contained two windows, but these have now been infilled with concrete blocks. The west elevation originally featured two 2/2 sliding sash windows with horns; these are now also sheeted over. All windows have dressed sandstone cills. The south gable is blank. There are no surviving entrance gate pillars.

The site was not marked on the 1859 Ordnance Survey map. In the 1862 valuation records, a house valued at 15 shillings is mentioned, but this likely refers to a different building. The school, named ‘Doon School’, is shown on the 1906-07 Ordnance Survey map. The precise year of construction within the later 19th century is unconfirmed in the available valuation records. The building is currently used as a school and is privately owned.
