Description
This is an example of a sweat house, a structure historically associated with County Fermanagh, though relatively rare. The sweat house is situated by a stream at the base of a steep slope within the Corraghy townland. It is part of a small group of buildings, including a turf house and a stable/byre located directly to the north, at the top of the slope.
The sweat house is a roughly beehive-shaped structure built of rubble stone, set within a wetland environment. The eastern face has a low, rectangular opening topped with a stone lintel; it contains no other openings. The structure is heavily overgrown and lies in marshy ground, with a stream and wooded area to its left. It is now bounded by a wire fence and accessed via a modern timber gate.
The date of construction is uncertain as the building is too small to be depicted on Ordnance Survey maps. It remains in private ownership and is currently used as a sweat house.
