Description
This is a vernacular house with an outbuilding to the west, located on the north side of the road within the Bunlougher townland, southeast of Bunlougher. The house and outbuilding were built between 1820 and 1839.
The house is a much altered, one-and-a-half storey, three-bay structure. It has a pitched natural slate roof with a skylight to the rear, a single cement-rendered chimney positioned to the right of centre, and plastic rainwater goods. The walls are cement-dashed with a smooth rendered basecourse and vertical bands at each end. All windows are sheeted over with concrete cills. A projecting porch is set to the left of centre, featuring a modern glazed timber door. The left cheek of the porch is blank, while the right cheek has a window. The left and right bays of the main elevation both have windows, and the left and right gables each have a central timber casement window. The rear elevation contains two timber casement windows, one to the right of centre bay and the other to the right bay.
The two-storey outbuilding has a pitched corrugated-metal roof with stone skews and plastic rainwater goods. The walls are constructed of rubble stone. Its principal, east-facing elevation features two t&g-sheeted doors which open onto the first floor. The left gable is abutted by a lean-to with a large opening to its east face, similarly detailed with t&g sheeting. The rear elevation of the outbuilding has two timber louvred openings to the ground floor and a t&g-sheeted opening to the first floor centre. The rear elevation of the lean-to contains three ventilation openings. The right gable has a t&g-sheeted door to the first floor accessed by an external stone stair.
A building is shown at this location on the 1834 Ordnance Survey six-inch map.
