Description

This milestone, located on the A359, is likely from the late 18th century. It is made of Doulting stone and features chamfered leading edges and a rounded top. The pillar measures approximately 340 mm wide, 220 mm thick, and stands about 800 mm high. A cast iron plaque is bolted onto the stone, measuring 250 mm wide and 310 mm high, which displays the raised Roman lettering "Bruton 2." This milestone marks one of the first roads taken over by the Bruton Turnpike Trust in 1756.
