Description
This is an 18th-century milestone located on the east side of Dropping Lane in Bruton. It is made of Doulting stone and features a cast iron plaque. The stone measures approximately 350 millimeters wide and 200 millimeters thick, with a rounded top that reaches about 600 millimeters in overall height. The plaque, which is bolted onto the stone, measures about 350 millimeters wide and 450 millimeters high, and it reads "BRUTON 1 MILE" in incised Roman lettering. This road was taken over by the Bruton Trust when it was established in 1756.
