Description
This is a boundary marker stone from the 18th century located on the west side of Dropping Lane in Bruton. Made of Doulting stone, the slab measures about 350 mm wide and 100 mm thick, standing approximately 600 mm high with a segmental top. It is incised with the words "Here ends Discove Road." This stone is believed to pre-date the Bruton Turnpike Trust, which took over this road in 1756, and it marks the limit of responsibility for road maintenance for the hamlet of Discove. It is considered a very rare survival.
