Description

Milestone on the A359, likely from the late 18th century, made of Doulting stone with a cast iron plaque. The pillar measures approximately 400 mm wide, 200 mm thick, and about 800 mm high. The rectangular plaque, which is about 250 mm wide and 350 mm high, displays the inscription "BRUTON 1" in raised Roman letters. This road has been maintained by the Bruton Turnpike Trust since 1756.
