Description
The Old School is a village school that has been converted into a house, dating from the 19th century. It is constructed from Cary stone with Doulting stone dressings and features a plain clay tile roof with coped gables and stone chimney stacks that have moulded tops. The building is single storey with a three-bay south elevation. The first and third bays have plain chamfered mullioned windows with four lights and small pane casements, while the second bay has a false gabled chimney breast. There is a lean-to hipped porch against the east gable, which has an inscription carved along the eaves course that reads (unseen) born 1811, died 1842. There is also a further extension to the rear. The design of the building is almost a textbook example, intended to harmonise with the nearby Church of St Leonard, and it may have been designed by G E Street.
