Description
This is a house located at 5 Church Steps in Minehead, dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior features painted roughcast over rubblestone and cob on each side, with a prominent squared coursed sandstone and limestone rubble external stack at the central gabled corner. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has a stack on the left party wall. The building has an L-shaped plan that curves back to meet No. 7 on the right.
It stands two storeys high and has a two-window range, with 19th and 20th-century casement windows. On the left side of the south front, which faces a courtyard, there are wide exposed rubblestone jambs and a 20th-century hood over a 18th-century door that has six raised and fielded panels. Above this door is a two-light casement window, and to the right is a three-light casement window. There is also a recess to the left of the gable-end stack, facing Church Steps, which contains a 19th-century trellised porch leading to a 19th-century planked door with 20th-century glazing at the top. The upper floor has one two-light 20th-century casement window, while the lower floor features a three-light casement window. The interior has not been inspected.
