Description
No. 7 Church Steps is a house dating from the late 17th century. It features painted roughcast over cob and has a half-hipped thatch roof with a brick stack at the junction of the rear wing, which is likely a former lateral stack. The house has a two-unit central-entry plan, heated by an end stack to the left and a rear lateral stack to the right. It is two storeys high and has a symmetrical two-window range. The windows are probably early 19th century two- and three-light designs with iron-framed small panes. The front door is a wide 20th-century oak door, and there is a small 19th-century single-light window with three panes to the right of the right return. Inside, the ground floor features a 20th-century staircase located to the rear right next to an open fire. There are two chamfered beams, with the one on the right having ogee stops. The three-bay principal rafter roof is not accessible.
