Description

This is a late 18th-century cottage attached to the rear right side of number 7 Church Steps. It is constructed of colour-washed cob with a thatched roof, and features a brick stack at the junction with number 7. The cottage follows a two-unit, central-entry plan and has two storeys and a two-window front. It has late 19th-century casement windows and a hipped thatched porch over the central door. Inside, the ground-floor room contains two stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, an open fire with a timber lintel to the left of the right end, and a spiral staircase to its right. The roof is three-bay, with a diagonally-set ridge purlin set into principal rafters and tenon-jointed purlins.
