Description

Pyne Cottage is a late 17th-century cottage located in Upton Pyne. It is built with rendered cob on a stone plinth and has a thatched roof. The roof is gabled on the right-hand end and includes a chimney stack, while the left-hand end is hipped, marking the location of an extension. The cottage originally comprised a single room and has two storeys and a two-window range. A central door has been renewed, and there are four irregularly placed windows with recessed casements. The main room features a large, single-chamfered beam with minimal end stops. A newel stair is located to the left of the fireplace, which has been replaced; the upper risers and treads are original, and lit by a small, two-light timber-mullioned stairwindow. Two purlins are exposed in the main upper room, one of which is heavily reinforced.
