Description
The Cottage is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from limestone and sandstone rubble, topped with a double Roman tiled roof that features raised coped verges. The house has a gable stack on the southeast side, which includes recessed panels and a cornice, as well as a brick ridge and gable stack. Originally designed with a through passage plan, the front is symmetrical and has two storeys with three windows. All windows are three-light casements with three panes each, featuring relieving arches, except for the central first-floor window, which is a two-light casement. The central door, which is from the 20th century, is located in a gabled porch.
On the right side of the building, there is a 20th-century window on the ground floor and a single-storey addition. The left side features a three-light casement with a relieving arch on the ground floor and a 20th-century attic window with a relieving arch, along with stepped stonework under the verges. At the rear, the ground floor has two three-light casements and a central 20th-century window that replaces a door, all with relieving arches. The first floor has two three-light casements and a central three-pane fixed light, all with relieving arches, and there is a single-storey addition to the left. Inside, there are chamfered beams, a stud partition to the left of the passage, and a 20th-century stair at the rear, with the original stair located in the front left room.
