Description

The Old School House and two attached cottages are a late 17th century group of buildings, with a mid-19th century school and 19th and 20th century alterations and additions. They are constructed of rubble with stone dressings and feature double Roman tiled roofs with brick and stone stacks. The buildings are arranged in an L-plan and showcase a picturesque Gothic style.

The single-storey school has a south elevation with two windows, each set in a small gable with bargeboards. These windows consist of two lights with trefoil heads and chamfered stone surrounds. The school also has a central broach stack, buttresses, a string course below the cills, projecting eaves, and crestings. To the right, there is a wooden gabled porch with pierced trefoils in the gable, a rubble plinth, and a plain door. The left return gable end of the school features a four-light window with pointed arched heads and three multi-foil lights above, all with a chamfered surround, along with buttresses and a string course, and bargeboards to the gable.

The 1½ storey cottages to the left have five windows at ground floor, with one blocked window on the left. All are 20th century casements, except for a three-light casement on the right that has ovolo mullions and a hood mould. The second from the right and second from the left were formerly doors. There are three small gables with bargeboards, each containing a two-light casement, with the right gable featuring ovolo mullions and a hood mould. The cottages also have two roof lights and three brick ridge stacks.

The east elevation of the cottages has three windows at ground floor, with the left window having two lights with an ovolo mullion and hood mould, while the two on the right are 20th century. The doors are located second from the left and second from the right. There are two gables with bargeboards, the larger one on the left has a two-light casement with an ovolo mullion and hood mould, and the right gable has a 20th century two-light casement with a chamfered timber lintel. The wall is set back to the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
