Description
Church Farmhouse is a historic farmhouse, now a house, with elements dating back to 1636. The east end was formerly a byre, rebuilt in the 18th century as a two-and-a-half storey kitchen block, and altered in the 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with a double Roman tiled roof, gable stacks, and a ridge stack, with stone on the left side and brick elsewhere.
The house comprises two blocks, a two-storey block to the left and a two-and-a-half-storey block to the right. The left block has three windows; the ground floor windows are a three-light and a four-light casement with three panes per light, featuring chamfered mullions and a timber lintel. The central two-storey gabled porch has a 20th-century door with a timber lintel, and a three-light replacement casement above with a timber lintel and a datestone. The first floor of this block has two replacement smaller three-light casements with timber lintels to the right. There is a projecting joint between the two blocks.
The right block features one window; it has a three-light casement with leaded lights in some panes at both the ground and first floors, with stone segmental heads and stonework to the sides. There is a smaller replacement three-light casement under the eaves, and large quoins. The right return has a single-storey lean-to and a 20th-century window replacing a former door, with a surround matching that on the front right. The left return has ground and first floor three-light replacement casements.
At the rear of the taller block, a first-floor window features a two-light casement in a rounded timber frame with a relieving arch, while the ground floor has a replacement casement with a relieving arch. A larger single-storey lean-to (formerly a dairy) is situated behind the lower block, and contains a two-light casement in a chamfered timber frame. The rear of the taller block also has a small single-storey 20th-century lean-to with a small door and window. The interior of the house was not inspected.
