Description

A farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations and additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of limestone and sandstone rubble, with some rendered areas, brickwork, and a double Roman tiled roof. A gable stack is present. The original layout was L-shaped, incorporating a former through passage. The front elevation has a four-light casement window with leaded lights and a loop catch on the first floor. A 20th-century window and door, set under a timber lintel, are on the ground floor, along with a small four-pane leaded stair light. A block to the right projects slightly, and a 19th-century door, also under a timber lintel, was originally positioned to the right of the stack, but is now blocked. A single-storey lean-to extends to the left. On the left return, a small four-pane casement with iron stanchions is visible in the gable end. The lower rear wing features a three-light 19th-century casement, a 20th-century casement, and a small fixed light. An external stack to the rear has a curved flue. A straight joint is visible between the rear wing and the main block. The right return displays a 20th-century ground-floor window and a first-floor sash window with brickwork on either side, flanked by two buttresses. A buttress to the rear of this section supports a 20th-century window on both the ground and first floors. A rendered wall is also present on the right return. The right return of the rear wing has a 20th-century door and two further windows on the ground floor, and two two-light casements with leaded lights and loop catches on the first floor. A single-storey brick lean-to is attached. Inside, to the right of the passage, a plank and batten door with a triangular head and chamfered surround leads to a newel stair located in the front right room. The rear of the rear wing reveals a large chamfered cambered lintel to a fireplace that has been divided into two rooms. Chamfered and step-stopped beams are also visible. A possible site of a former second stair is visible at the first floor to the left rear.
