Description

This is a 17th-century house, altered in the 19th century and with 20th-century additions and alterations. The house is constructed of rendered stone rubble, partly in cob, with a slate roof featuring ridge and gable tiles. It has a brick gable-end stack to the right and a rubble rear lateral stack to the left, stepped and finished with slate. The original plan comprised a two-room and cross-passage layout, with the hall to the left heated by the rear stack and the parlour to the right by the gable stack. A large 20th-century addition extends from the right end, and a 20th-century porch fronts the building. The asymmetrical two-window front features a late 19th-century plate-glass sash window to the left, a 20th-century flat-roofed porch with a 4-panelled outer door and a half-glazed inner door, and a 20th-century 2-light 6-pane casement to the right. The first floor has a 19th-century 2-light 3-pane casement centrally and a 20th-century 4-pane window to the right. A 20th-century addition projects to the right. The left end has an 18th-century 8-pane sash window at ground floor and an 18th-century 2-light 3-pane casement at first floor, both with cambered brick arches. The rear elevation has a large external stack to the right and a small 19th-century 4-pane window and a 20th-century 3-light 6-pane casement at ground floor. The entrance passage contains a 19th-century 4-panelled door on each side and a straight staircase spanning the passage’s full width. The room to the right on the ground floor retains roughly hewn ceiling beams. The interior was not fully inspected.
