Description

This is a range of farm buildings located about 20 metres south-east of Pipplepen Farmhouse, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. The buildings are constructed from ham stone rubble with ashlar dressings and some brick infill, topped with mostly Welsh slate roofs featuring stepped coped gables. The layout is 'L'-shaped, consisting of a two-storey east range and a single-storey south range. The main barn in the east range has four bays. The west elevation features a segmental archway with a pair of divided doors in bay 2, along with slit vents and a part-blocked window in upper bay 1. Attached to the north gable is a lower range with a double Roman clay tiled roof and a plain gable; the south half was originally a throughway but is now blocked up, with voussoired flat arched doorways and windows below, including one shuttered window and a loft door above. Extending westward from bays 3 and 4 of the main barn is a range of cowstalls and stables, which has stone slate base courses leading to the Welsh slate roof; the open byre section is now bricked up, and the building continues in a lean-to form against the south gable of the main barn. This group of buildings holds significant value in relation to Pipplepen Farmhouse.
