Description
The Old Rectory, now a private house, was originally built in the early 19th century, with later Victorian additions on the west side. The south elevation features stone walls that are stuccoed, topped with a slate roof that has parallel ridges and stone gable-copings. There are early 20th-century brick stacks and iron guttering at the front, supported by 12 ornamental iron brackets. The building has two storeys and attics, with three sash windows that include glazing bars, flush wooden frames, and cills. The former front door, located at the center, is made of wood with two flush panels and nine glass lights above. A verandah supported by eight iron columns, featuring cross-saltires and circles, has a pentice glass roof.
At the rear, there is a service wing and a former apple store, both dating from the mid-19th century, which also have two storeys and attics. The east elevation includes a ground floor sash window with two-light casements above, and stone arch voussoirs. The mid-19th-century additions on the west consist of a dining room with a penticed roof and a porch.
The property includes an attached front garden wall that runs approximately 70 yards along the road, featuring a stone plinth with brick walls above in Flemish bond, dating from the early 19th century. A reset datestone from a former house is set into the return wall, displaying a badge and the initials TH 1684, framed by a column and topped with a round arch, with rosettes on either side. Square stone gate piers at the west end of the wall are capped with shallow pyramidal stones.
