Description

Rose Cottage is a former group of three attached cottages, now combined into a single dwelling, dating from the early 18th century. The building is constructed of rubble-stone with a Roman-tile roof and has two brick stacks located at the ridge centre and on the inner right-hand cottage. It is two storeys high and has six windows, predominantly 2- and 3-light wooden casements with glazing-bars. The windows have wooden cills, although the casements in the original Rose Cottage (the left-hand end) are modern and lack glazing-bars. The windows have wooden lintels and cills. A plank door with thin muntins, which is of 20th-century design, is now located on the west gable end. Doorways onto the road have been blocked. Inside, the central room, formerly a Reading Room, contains an open fireplace with re-pointed stone jambs, a wood bressumer, and a cambered stop-chamfer.
