Description

29, 31, and 33 Penel Orlieu is a row of three shops built in the early 19th century. The buildings are constructed of painted Flemish-bond brick, featuring stone coping on the parapet and cornice. The leftmost shop, No. 29, has stepped voussoirs and a continuous hipped pantile roof with brick stacks on the left gable end and right of center. Each shop is two stories high and has two windows on the upper floor.

No. 29 features 6/6-pane sash windows on the first floor, with a blocked window on the left. No. 31 has flat gauged brick arches above the first-floor windows, a blocked window to the left, and a 20th-century window to the right. The six-panel door on the left has a semicircular gauged brick arch and a decorative fanlight that is now painted over. To the right, there is a mid-19th-century restored shopfront with a moulded cornice and two panes of plate glass.

No. 33, located at the corner, also has flat gauged brick arches on the first floor, a 20th-century window flanked by blocked windows, including one on the curved corner bay. This shop has a 20th-century shopfront and a two-window right return with a 20th-century door and casement windows. The interior has not been inspected.
