Description

Nos. 13-16 on Bridge Street are three shops built around 1840, with the left return rebuilt in the 20th century. The front is constructed of orange and black mottled brick in Flemish bond. The roof features pantiles at the front and slate at the rear, with brick ridge stacks.

The exterior has a three-storey, four-window front. No. 13 has a late 20th-century replacement shopfront with fluted pilasters and a deep fascia beneath a moulded cornice. Nos. 14 and 15 share a shopfront with a moulded surround and a blind box; there is a three-quarter glazed shop door to the left of a canted plate glass window over a marbled riser, and a similar door upstairs to the right. No. 16 features a shopfront with panelled pilasters, moulded imposts, and a panelled fascia beneath a blind box; it has glazed double doors between plate glass windows over panelled risers.

The right end window on the first floor is a canted bay with one-pane sashes and a half-hipped roof; the remaining upper floor windows are sashes, either four-pane or twelve-pane, with painted stone sills and flat arches made of gauged brick. The building has a moulded eaves cornice with mutules, a gabled dormer with scalloped bargeboards and a finial, and a five-light flat dormer in the attic. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value with early 19th-century shops on Bridge Street.
