Description

No. 9 Bridge Street is a shop and office building dating from around 1820, with later 19th-century shopfronts. The Skeldergate front was rebuilt in 1892. The Bridge Street facade is made of mottled red brick in Flemish bond, featuring a timber dentil and modillion eaves cornice and a slate hipped roof. The Skeldergate front is constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond, accented with blue glazed brick.

The exterior on Bridge Street has a three-storey, one-window front, with a three-storey canted corner bay. The Skeldergate side also has a three-storey, one-window front. The shopfront on Bridge Street includes grooved pilasters, a plain fascia between grooved bulbous consoles, and a moulded cornice. It features a glazed shop door that is recessed between plate glass windows with small-pane transom lights, above painted tiled risers. The canted corner window is located beneath a curved fascia. The shopfront on Skeldergate has slender fluted pilasters, a plain fascia between fluted brackets, and a dentil cornice. There is a plate glass window to the left of a six-panel door, which has a tall small-pane overlight. The Bridge Street front has four-pane sash windows with painted stone sills and flat arches of gauged brick on the first and second floors. The interior has not been inspected.
