Description

No. 7 Goodramgate is a shop and offices building dating from the mid-19th century, featuring a shopfront that includes elements from both the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is built of orange-cream brick in Flemish bond, with timber shopfronts and a cornice, and has brick stacks rising from a slate hipped roof.

The building has three storeys and a seven-bay front, with a curved corner bay between two bays facing Goodramgate and four bays facing Aldwark. The shopfront on Goodramgate features sunk-panel pilasters with fluted necking, integral blind boxes, and a dentil cornice. The windows are made of plate glass, and there is an altered entrance with a glass door in the corner bay. The front has been extended to the first bay on the Aldwark side, while the rest of the Aldwark front has been modified to include plate glass shop windows.

The upper floor windows consist of one- or eight-pane sashes with segmental arches made of orange gauged brick and stone stops. The corner windows are curved, with the first-floor window featuring sunk-panel jambs and a moulded segmental pediment supported by scrolled consoles. There is a painted stone sill band for the first-floor windows and sills for the second-floor windows. The eaves cornice is moulded and dentilled. The interior has not been inspected.
