Description
17 Goodramgate is a building in York that was originally known as No. 14 Goodramgate. It is a house that has been converted into a shop, possibly dating back to the 16th century, with an extension from the 18th century. The building was restored and had its rear rebuilt around 1972. The front is rendered and white-washed, featuring a timber shopfront, while the extension is made of orange-red brick in an English garden-wall bond, previously stuccoed. The rear is refaced in orange brick in stretcher bond, topped with a pantile roof.
The exterior has a two-storey, one-window front with a jettied first floor. The shopfront includes an 18-pane window situated between a part-glazed shop door on the left and a six-panel door on the right, both of which have divided overlights above. The first-floor window is a squat 24-pane sash. At the rear, there is a two-storey, four-window front. On the left side, there is a pedimented doorcase with fluted jambs, an entablature, and a sunk panel door. The ground floor features 12-pane sash windows, while the first floor has unequal 9-pane sash windows.
Inside, there is a heavy chamfered spine beam in the front part of the shop.
