Description
No. 25 Goodramgate is a former house, now a shop, which includes a gateway to the Bedern. It dates from the 16th century and was partly rebuilt in the late 17th century, with later alterations and a 20th-century shopfront. The building is constructed of orange-brown brick in English garden-wall bond, painted at the front, while the rear wing is timber-framed and rendered on the first floor. It has a pantile roof with brick stacks and three box dormers featuring 2-light casements.
The exterior consists of two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front. The ground floor includes the gateway to the Bedern, which has an elliptical arch with a chamfered timber lintel set on chamfered stone jambs. The first-floor windows are 4-pane sashes with painted sills. The rear of the front range features a shaped lintel over an arch and a blocked window above. The rear wing also has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window gable wall and a first floor that jetties on adjacent sides. The ground floor is obscured by later additions, while the first floor has an inserted 2-light casement window and two 4-pane sashes, with one 3-light casement in the attic.
The interior has not been inspected, but records indicate some visible timber-framing. On the first floor, there is a late 17th-century bolection moulded fireplace accompanied by some contemporary panelling.
