Description

No. 5 Goodramgate is a United Methodist chapel built in 1858, which has since been converted into a County Court and shops. The building was adapted for business use around 1930 and transformed into a County Court around 1980. The front is finished in stucco with painted brick pilasters above timber shopfronts, while the rear is constructed of orange-grey brick in English garden-wall bond. It features a stone-coped slate roof with a brick stack on the rear gable.

The exterior is two stories high with a five-window gabled front. The ground floor shopfronts have sunk-panel pilasters and a moulded cornice. The upper floor is defined by pilasters with moulded imposts, and the windows are round-headed with radial-glazed sashes. The center windows are grouped in threes and framed by fasciated round-arched architraves with pilasters and imposts, while the outer windows have plain round-arched brick surrounds. All windows feature console keyblocks and are connected by a continuous moulded sill. A moulded eaves cornice sits beneath a plain parapet.

At the rear, the ground floor has been altered, but four round-headed radial-glazed sashes remain on the first floor, complete with painted stone sills and brick arches. There is also a louvred oculus in the gable end. The interior has not been inspected.
