Description
No. 2 Monkgate is a shop built around 1865. It features a wall made of magnesian limestone ashlar, a timber shopfront, and a slate roof. The exterior stands approximately 4 meters high and 10 meters long, topped with flat coping. At the right end, there is a chamfered round-arched doorway. To the left, a single-storey gabled bay includes a shopfront framed by sunk-panelled pilasters, a dentilled cornice on block brackets, and heavy grooved brackets beneath a plain fascia. The shop door is glazed and sunk-panelled, with a blocked overlight above it. The shop window has been altered and consists of three transomed lights over a painted stall riser. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value as an important part of the streetscape on Monkgate.
