Description
The Bay Horse Public House, formerly known as The Bay Horse Hotel, is a public house located on Monkgate in York. It dates from the late 18th century and was refronted in 1837. The building is constructed of brick with painted stone dressings and features a hipped slate roof on the right side.
The exterior is symmetrical, comprising three storeys and three bays. The facade includes quoins with alternating rustication and two sill bands. The windows are glazing bar sashes topped with painted rusticated lintels. The ground-floor windows are tripartite, lacking glazing bars on the lower sash panes, and have lintels with stepped voussoirs and keyblocks. The entrance features a Doric pilaster doorcase, a fanlight, and a six-panel door. There are chimneys located on the left side and behind the ridge to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
