Description
No. 1 Lord Mayor's Walk, which also includes No. 5 Monkgate, is a mid-19th century brick shop building with a hipped slate roof. It stands three storeys tall and features three bays facing Lord Mayor's Walk and one bay on Monkgate, with a corner that has slightly recessed curved brickwork. The upper storey windows are glazing bar sashes with brick flat arches. On the ground floor, the Monkgate facade has a shopfront with a recessed central doorway and a timber entablature that wraps around the corner to the first bay of the Lord Mayor's Walk facade. This entablature is flanked by Tuscan pilasters on either side, with a second pair surrounding a former doorway that has been converted into a window, set diagonally at the corner. The right-hand bay facing Lord Mayor's Walk features a shopfront with a timber fascia, while the central bay has a pilaster doorcase with voluted caps above a four-panel door, which is topped by a plain rectangular overlight. The interior has not been inspected.
