Description

Nos. 15 and 17 are two shops with dwellings, built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of Flemish-bond brick, featuring stone stepped voussoirs and cills, and have a continuous pantile roof with brick stacks at the gable ends. The buildings have a double-depth plan and rise three storeys with basements, each shop having a two-window range. The second floor has 10/10-pane sash windows with small panes, while No. 15 has 6/6-pane sashes on the first floor and C20 fixed louvred windows. The ground floors have C20 shopfronts.

At the rear, the buildings have wide bracketed eaves. No. 15 features a two-window range with flat gauged brick arches, 8/12-pane sash windows on the second floor, and 12/12-pane sashes along with a small late 19th-century window on the right of the first floor. No. 17 is similar but wider, with a blind window to the left of centre on the second floor flanked by 8/12-pane sashes. Below, there is a 1/6-pane sash window flanked on the left by a 6/6-pane sash and on the right by a 12/12-pane sash.

The ground floor has wide elliptical cream brick gauged arches over the basement area, with flat gauged brick arches in the recesses. No. 15 has a C20 window, while No. 17 has a 10/15-pane sash window, with similar flat arches to former basement windows. The doors flanking these recesses have semicircular gauged cream brick arches and fanlights with Gothic glazing bars. No. 15 features a C20 door, while No. 17 has a six-panel door with a partly painted-over fanlight. To the far left, there are two small C20 windows. The buildings also have spearhead railings in front of the basement areas at the rear. The interiors have not been inspected.
