Description
No. 13 High Street is a shop with a dwelling that dates from the late 18th century and was refronted in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of Flemish-bond brick and features painted stone rusticated quoins, a cornice, a blocking course, a platband, and window dressings. It has a pantile roof with brick stacks at the gable ends and stands three storeys tall with a symmetrical two-window range.
Each upper-floor window has a moulded console and cornice above a flat arch, with the intrados curving downwards at the corners. The windows are fitted with plate-glass sashes that include margin panes. The pilasters on either side of the late 19th-century moulded fascia, which sits above a 20th-century shop front, are fluted at the bases and have plinths and moulded cornices. The ends of the fascia are supported by paired brackets.
At the rear, the building features wide eaves and a two-window range with flat arches and stepped stone voussoirs on the upper floors. A blind window is centrally located, flanked by horned 6/6-pane sash windows on the second floor and 6/9-pane sashes on the first floor. Notable survivals include two early 19th-century shop windows with moulded fascias and pilasters, each having three rows of three panes with large lamb's tongue glazing bars. To the right, there is a late 19th-century four-panel door beneath a moulded cornice with a scrolled cornice decorated with fruit and vines; the lintel above the overlight has rounded corners. The plinth of the building is faced with slate. The interior has not been inspected.
