Description

No. 19 High Street is a shop with a dwelling that is now a cafe, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of Flemish-bond brick and features a pantile roof with a brick stack on the left gable end. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a three-window range.

The second floor has finely gauged flat arches above 8/8-pane sash windows, while the first floor features large sashes, likely from the early 20th century, with 15 panes in the top sash arranged in three rows of five, and two panes on the sides. The centre of the first floor is highlighted by an early 20th-century full-height leaded three-light oriel window, which has a swept hipped lead roof and a heavily dentilled cornice. The transom above the central light rises in a semicircular arch, characteristic of an Ipswich window.

The ground floor facade is articulated by five fluted pilasters that are panelled at the bases. The outer pilasters have moulded corbels flanking the fascia, which is stepped out at the centre to support the oriel window. To the right, there is a door, while the rest of the ground floor has C20 leaded windows that are panelled below.

At the rear, the building has a painted brick three-window range with segmental gauged brick arches above late 19th-century windows on the upper floors. The second floor features 4/1-pane sashes, and the first floor has 2/1-pane sashes. To the left of the ground floor, which is set on a partially stone plinth, there is a C20 cornice above a wide three-light leaded window with a segmental arch over the central light, along with a door and a C20 window to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
